Though you might want to do a single player campaign first, depending on how noisy or rush-y your pals are - the story really must be experienced in its full grandeur at least once.

In the hundreds and hundreds of games I have played across all platforms from on as a gaming hobbyist in my life, this is truly one of the absolute best. I'd put it in my top 5, without dispute. It's an experience. Icefox, thank you for the information and opinion. I appreciate your time. There's a bunch of great mods out there.

I installed about 10 of them using a guide I found online and it is running great under Windows 7 and looks really good, considering the age. The only problem I had was with the key mappings. If anyone sends me an email asking for help playing a pirated copy of this game, I am going to sign you up to every porn website I can find.

If you email me asking why your downloaded version of system shock 2 doesn't work, I will reply with lots of swearing. Don't email me and don't post in this thread if you can't afford to buy a working copy of the game from www.

Just keeping things updated for once in a million years. System Shock 2, right out of the box, will not run under Windows XP. If a bug occurs, the installer will not detect that you are running XP, and will successfully install.

But under perfect circumstances, the game will NOT run. This guide is sorted by the name of the problem you are encountering, or certain characteristics of the system running the game. The topic "All XP Systems" are things that all users attempting to run Systetm Shock 2 should perform first to attempt to fix the problem.

Reason: System Shock 2 just wasn't designed for your operating system. Solution: Right Click on "shock2. If your problem is fixed, good, if not, try another windows version or look to other sections of this document. Reason: System Shock 2 has no real support for NT kernel operating systems, so to avoid people complaining of all the bugs that appear under NT, the game refuses to install, giving a legitimate reason. EXE is on a non-rewritable CD. Solution: Run the file iv5play.

You may need to do this after each reboot of your system. The game will install fully, and the EXE will load in compatibility modes. The first level will load, controls will work, sounds will work. The game will halt after a few seconds of movement, or of sitting still.

In "Applications" select System Shock 2, right click on it and select "Goto Process", right click on the process and select "Set Affinity". Select only a single CPU to run the process, and apply the new settings. Solution: Locate a safedisc unwrapper, and run it on the shock2. Various crack websites are where you should look for this type of file. Reason: Unknown, possibly just due to outdated drivers.

This installs all the patches and fixes necessary. The game runs, and just works. If you can't use inventory items, save your bindings and they start. Looks good in 8xAA. Ten more years! I would do steps 2 and 3 differently but it is good to know SS2 works on Win7. Last edited by Bjossi; 12th Aug at Bjossi: I'm new at this, and didn't do a lot of research.

This'll be my first go around, on the Win7 box - and I'm glad, as its x with awesome textures. Well, basically I prefer doing things manually and knowing exactly what is happening when I perform certain actions. Since I know my way around the Dark engine games quite well I've come up with a solid system that is automatic on my own terms and is far more compact and clean. Are the Nvidia drivers still a problem?
