Windows 8 performance improvements over windows 7
Each day your system doesn't have a failure, the index rises a little bit. On days there are failures, you'll see red icons, divided into rows by type of failure -- application, Windows or miscellaneous hardware, drivers, etc. The chart also has icons for warnings about unsuccessful updates and for information about successful updates and installations.
Select any day with a failure or other event, and at the bottom of the screen you'll see details about those events, divided into categories. Pay attention to the details of each crash and failure. Look for patterns, such as if the same application frequently crashes. If so, uninstall it, or look for an update that fixes the problem.
Finally, down at the very bottom of the screen click "View all problem reports. It lets you scroll through your problems more quickly than in the normal view, because they're in a long, vertical list. Windows 8 includes a Performance Monitor tool that shows an immense amount of detail about a system's hardware and software. Unfortunately, its main interface is almost impossible to decipher.
There is, however, one way to get some very useful information out of the Performance Monitor -- tell it to generate a detailed report for you that pinpoints system issues and suggests fixes.
You don't create the report directly from the Performance Monitor. Note that you might need Administrator rights to your PC to run the report. A screen appears telling you that a report is generated, and after a minute or two, an interactive report appears onscreen. The report can be lengthy, and goes into mind-numbing detail about your system. If you want to know about things such as your system's video classes and UDP information it's the place to go.
Most useful are reports of errors or problems. If it finds any, those will be at the very beginning of the report. For each error or problem, it describes the symptom and the cause, suggests how to fix it, and provides a link to other useful information. A common cause of system slowdowns is programs that load unnecessarily at startup and bog down your system.
There are several ways to speed up startup. A good place to start is the Task Manager. You've got several different ways to launch the Task Manager -- take your pick:. If you see the phrase "More details" at the bottom of the Task Manager screen, click it. If you see the phrase "Fewer details" at the bottom of the screen, you're already in the right place.
Now click the Startup tab. Great as a free price tag, longer support, better apps and gaming, searches and security may sound unfortunately the list where Windows 7 and Windows 8 current beat out Windows 10 is just as strong. Among these are disappearing icons from the taskbar, Start Menu lock-ups, Windows Store download bugs, copy and paste errors, problems with audio and more. In fact Microsoft is about to release a massive one gigabyte download of bug fixes, which gives you an idea of the scale.
The trouble is such numerous patches always bring new bugs of their own. This has included automatically installing a broken graphics driver which crashed displays , a security patch which crashed Windows Explorer and more. I believe the ideal solution lies halfway between the two: make all updates automatic by default, but give users the option to stop or delay any update categories or individual updates they like.
Right now this lack of flexibility makes Windows 10 a deal breaker for some. Microsoft requires users to accept these terms in its Windows 10 EULA end user licence agreement and security updates now sidestep Windows Update and are installed to all versions of Windows 10 without warning. Meanwhile driver and feature updates through Windows Update can be delayed up to one month by Windows 10 Home users the vast majority of consumers and eight months by Windows 10 Pro customers most businesses , but after that time Microsoft will cut off the next round of updates including security patches from users until they accept the previous ones.
Windows 7 and Windows 8 have had similar policies for major updates in the past Service Packs in Windows 7, and the Windows 8. Privacy - If the enforcement policies were tough, however, they have nothing on the privacy violations Microsoft requests in the Windows 10 EULA. A notable section reads:. Ease of Use - In fairness Windows 7 is so ubiquitous that Windows 10 was never going to be more intuitive to use than its much loved forebear.
That said Windows 10 is more intuitive than Windows 8 and much of that comes down to the return of the Start Menu. Consequently Windows 10 is a great blend of the advancements of Windows 8 and the familiarity of Windows 7, but sight of Windows 8 elements and there are many will still be too much for some. Windows 10 also needs greater consistency across its user interface as there is still a jarring transition between traditional desktop settings like the Control Panel and settings pushed into the Modern UI.
Meanwhile games like Solitaire have been removed and are now ad supported from the Windows Store with payment required to remove them. The benefit of WUDO is that once one Windows 10 device has downloaded the latest updates it will automatically distribute them to other PCs on your network, saving time.
Behind the scenes, Storage Spaces also duplicates your data across multiple drives in the pool to create redundancy in case of single-drive failure.
Windows 8 has a new feature that automatically adjusts the window color in the traditional desktop to match your background image. If you have an image of the sky, the windows and the taskbar will turn blue. If you have an image heavy in brown tones, the windows and taskbar will go brown. Windows 8 includes a new hybrid system that Microsoft says will dramatically improve boot times compared to Windows 7.
The new hybrid boot combines processes used in cold boots and hibernation mode, including kernel-session storage and the employment of multiple cores in parallel during boot. Chkdsk is a utility that tries to fix file-system corruptions. To fix problems, you still have to reboot in Windows 8, but the process is much faster. Microsoft has upgraded the Windows Backup and Restore features of Windows 7 with a new, easier-to-use Windows 8 tool called File History.
But these days, Windows 8 has become the talk of the town in operating system, Windows 8 is upcoming version of Microsoft Windows. Microsoft has recently launched the Developer Preview Disk image of their upcoming Operating the Windows 8.
Windows 8 is expected to release in but the Developer Preview of Windows 8 was shown few days back. Thought Windows 8 is still not complete but we can pluck out some major differences in contrast to its popular predecessor version Windows 7 in terms of performance and appearance. As you can see in the image above that:.
